520 ## - SUMMARY, ETC.
Summary, etc Contemporary scholars have begun to explore non-normative sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression in a growing victimization literature, but very little research is focused on LGBTQ communities’ patterns of offending (beyond sex work) and their experiences with police, the courts, and correctional institutions. This Handbook, the first of its kind in Criminology and Criminal Justice, will breaks new ground by presenting a thorough treatment of all of these under-explored issues in one interdisciplinary volume that features current empirical work. This innovative handbook includes: -Review of background and historical coverage of issues related to LGBT individuals and criminology -Research on LGBT individuals’ experience as victims as well as perpetrators of crimes, including well-established topics like anti-gay bias crimes, as well as less-explored topics like same-sex domestic violence and youth gang involvement -Exploration of interactions between LGBT communities and the justice system, including police, courts, and corrections agents, particularly in juvenile treatment facilities, jails and prisons. -Important contributions at the intersection of public health and criminology, not only from an epidemiological perspective, but also between certain criminally-defined behaviors and their public health consequences This timely and important work will be an essential resource for researchers in criminology interested in exploring issues facing LGBT individuals, as well as from related disciplines such as sociology, public health, and public policy. It offers a comprehensive source of the current research as well as a jumping-off point for future studies.
